Katherine Tsang, CEO and chairman for Standard Chartered Bank (China), said that the foreign lender was in high expectation of the approval, chiefly because more fee and commission incomes can be generated from the domestic credit card business.
For instance, in the entire 2007, fee and commission incomes from the credit card business of China Merchants Bank (CMB; SHSE: 600036; SEHK: 3968) largely rose 107% from a year earlier and accounted for more than 70% of total fee and commission incomes of its bank card operation.
Standard Chartered Bank (China) yesterday unveiled its renminbi debit card with a high profile, second to The Bank of East Asia (China) Ltd. (BEA China). At the beginning of this month, the foreign lender's debit card business system was greenlighted by the People's Bank of China (PBC), the nation's central bank.
