Among the beneficiaries were some 70 households within the Pangdan expanded Agrarian Reform Community (ARC).
Samar Provincial Agrarian Reform Officer (PARO) Gregorio Fiel Jr. said the beneficiaries are members of a cooperative in the area that manage the operation and maintenance of the project.
A recipient household pays P420 registration fee and P220 monthly dues for an eight-hour use of electricity per day.
According to Fiel, the installation of the solar home system package completed the four packages provided under SPOTS. The other packages installed earlier were the barangay hall lighting system, communal lighting system and school learning system package.
The school learning package included school lightings, audio-visual learning equipment and educational tapes for the learning process of elementary pupils in the area.
DAR Regional Director Homer Tobias said that four other unenergized villages in Calbiga ARC, also located in Samar province, will receive similar benefits from SPOTS.
He said this is to complement President Arroyos 10 point agenda, specifically on the electrification of villages in the countryside.
Tobias said the formal switching on of the project in these areas is scheduled in mid-August.
Recipients of the project will also be provided with P1,200 capital for livelihood activities under the projects agri-business component to augment their income.
Aside from the financial capital, recipients in Mahaba and Basiao islands were also provided with a motorboat and gill net for their sisi production which is the main source of livelihood in the area. ALM/FFC/JALS/egr
