An hour before interviews began at 9 a.m., a long line snaked through the parking lot in front of a small trailer where candidates were interviewed.
The line continued to grow as job seekers arrived and picked up applications to fill out while waiting.
Apple Valley resident Debbie Eversole said she has been looking for work for about a year. The long wait in line for a job interview is not new.
"I stood at Stater Brothers for three hours," Eversole said.
Melissa Maza is feeling optimistic about job opportunities in the High Desert, especially when she sees all the people lined up waiting for interviews at just one store.
"It makes me wonder about all the people who need employment here in Apple Valley, but I'm glad to see all these places being built. It gives us opportunities and hopefully lots get hired," Maza said.
Bed Bath and Beyond interviews will continue today and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on site at Jess Ranch Marketplace.
Over the next few weeks, other large retailers will be interviewing for their new stores opening in the Victor Valley.
Tuija Wayne, of Bed Bath and Beyond's regional human resources department, said the store will open in early September. She declined to comment on the number of job openings or what positions are open.
"We are excited about a lot of good people," Wayne said.
Best Buy, next to Bed Bath and Beyond in Jess Ranch Marketplace, expects to open by mid-October. Corporate officials say they expect to hire about 100 full-time and part-time employees.

WinCo Foods is preparing to open a massive 96,800-squarefoot store in Victorville.
The new Super Target store opening soon along Interstate 15 in Hesperia is having a job fair this week on the campus of Victor Valley Community College. The store is looking for a variety of skills from cake decorators to those who will stock shelves, work the service desk, and work the sales floor. The job fair is scheduled for Thursday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
