Pontiac Fire Chief John Cummins said that residents of the home were burning paper behind the single story home shortly before 1 p.m. and they thought that it was extinguished. The fire then moved toward the house, damaging its north side. Siding was visibly warped and melted as firemen examined the scene.
Cummins said the fire was quickly extinguished. The home is owned by Chris Larkin, and Larkin told Cummins that the house was insured for fire. Cummins also said that the house was completely livable. Fire officials were all clear of the scene by around 1:50 p.m., Cummins said.
The Pontiac Fire Department, Pontiac Police and Duffy Ambulance responded to the fire. Departments from Saunemin and Cullom also covered the Pontiac Fire Department.
