One example is Silicon material producer GCL Silicon Technology Holdings, which just concluded a production agreement on the production of silicon ingot and wafer with a total investment of 1.1 billion US dollars.
The project with an annual production capacity of 2,700 mw of silicon ingot and wafer is expected to go into full production in 2010 with annual sales of 30 billion yuan (US$4.37 billion).
One example is Asia's largest silicon wafer producer LDK Solar Co. Ltd. (LDK.NYSE), which stepped further up to its upstream industry last year by adding silicon material production capacity of 160,000 tons.
Another example is solar module provider Suntech Power, which announced recently to purchase a silicon material and wafer producer with 98.9 million US dollars.
Insiders deemed that the extension of industrial chain would help silicon enterprises cope with the shortage of raw materials and survive the furious market.
Silicon enterprises are encouraged to build up anti-risk capacity after extending their upstream or downstream industrial sectors.
