Gainsco Leads Friday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Rises 0.84%

OLDWICK, N.J., Aug 18, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- AAME | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Friday, Aug. 15, at 1048.36 (+0.84%). Of the 15 A.M. Best stock indexes, 13 rose and two declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Gainsco (+7.41%) and Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group Holdings (+5.71%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Atlantic American Corp. (-13.33%) and Penn Treaty American (-3.91%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the European Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1263.71 (+1.28%). Leading the AMBAP were Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group Holdings (+5.71%) and Nissay Dowa General Insurance (+3.80%). Trailing the AMBAP were Singapore Reinsurance Corp. (-1.82%) and QBE Insurance Group Ltd. (-0.64%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 1168.47 (+0.68%). Leading the AMBGR were Aspen Insurance Holdings (+3.76%) and XL Capital (+3.67%). Trailing the AMBGR were Singapore Reinsurance Corp. (-1.82%) and Munich Re (-1.07%).
