Gaubatz, 41, from Corning, brings a wealth of experience to his new position. His practical experience includes 12 years with the CFD where he filled in as a relief dispatcher in the event of illnesses or vacations, as well as stints with the Tehama County Fire Department and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CDF). He split the last eight years with four years as an EMT and the last four as a paramedic with the St. Elizabeth ambulance. Gaubatz still works part-time as a paramedic.
He believes his previous duties prepared him well for his new tasks.
"I have knowledge of what the people I dispatch are doing on the scene,' Gaubatz explained, 'and I've worked with all the county emergency personnel and know how they do things."
Corning Fire Chief Martin Spannaus was quick to interject, "We're completely ticked pink to have him with us."
After a couple training days he began his normal daily duties Aug. 11.
Gaubatz lives in Corning with his wife Teresa, daughter Katie and son Jake.
