David R. Fusco, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Connecticut, will be the keynote speaker at the first class.
Topics scheduled to be covered in the classes include creating a business plan, acquiring capital, marketing and promoting a business, and financial record keeping and insurance. The final class will be a graduation ceremony and reception.
"I see a lot of businesses failing because they start up without the knowledge they need," Robert J. Liuzzi, director of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce's Small Business Center, said in a written statement. "The Small Business Academy is great way for people to learn the essentials of starting and growing their own business."
Registration is required, and there is a one-time $15 fee for registration and materials. To register, contact Paul Tommaselli at the chamber at 782-4342 or ptommaselli@gnhcc. com.
