Coziahr's Harley-Davidson has been designated an official stop on the 105th anniversary ride to the motor company's factory in Milwaukee, Wis., and owners Tim and Debbie Coziahr are planning a blowout party. As part of the anniversary celebration, Miller Lite and Harley-Davidson held a sweepstakes to award some lucky winner a 2008 Night Rod motorcycle, and that person's name -- Debbie Coziahr will only say the winner is from Decatur -will be announced at the party.
The Coziahrs expect the festivities to get underway about 5:30 p.m., with the announcement at 7 p.m.
"I'm not sure how we got chosen (to be a host stop)," Debbie Coziahr said. "All of the anniversary rides have had major interstates from every part of the country. The major interstates will all converge and head up the highway into Milwaukee."
This year, however, the company decided to choose some dealerships on less major routes, and Coziahr's will host a group from Florida, including some Harley executives. The Greg Bickers Band will play, there will be food and drawings and the Miller Lite girls, in addition to the announcement of the sweepstakes winner. The riders will leave on Wednesday morning for Milwaukee, where the party takes up several city blocks and the headline act will be Bruce Springsteen on Saturday.
The Coziahrs have attended every one of the anniversary celebrations, held in five-year increments, for years, but this year they have to miss it due to the Springfield Mile planned for the same weekend. Tim Coziahr is a race sponsor.
Watching the thousands of motorcycles come together for the homestretch into Milwaukee is a sight never to be forgotten, Debbie Coziahr said. People line the overpasses to cheer them on.
Tickets are required to get into the grounds of the actual festival along the river in Milwaukee, which will include the Springsteen concert, but a lot of people attend and stay on the fringes of the official party because there's plenty going on there, too.
One year, said Tim Coziahr, the Harley employee organizing the musical entertainment hired Elton John. Superstar that he is, he's not quite to the taste of most bikers. Or if he is, they won't admit it.
"There was a lot of controversy over that," Tim Coziahr said with a reminiscent smile. "(Bikers) like ZZ Top and stuff like that."
The local Harley Owners Group will also celebrate its 25th anniversary at the party at Coziahr's on Tuesday, and the dealership is celebrating its fifth anniversary at its current location.
"We're just doing it all at once," Debbie Coziahr said.
