Starting next month, prices of the 2009 Matiz will rise as much as 200,000 won (US$187) to 7.26 million won, GM Daewoo said in a statement.
In the statement, a GM Daewoo executive said the carmaker will raise the Matiz prices as more consumers want to buy such fuel-efficient vehicles amid high fuel prices.
"To meet consumer expectation for minicars in an era of expensive oil, GM Daewoo introduces the 2009 Matiz," quoted as Rick LaBelle, vice president of GM Daewoo, saying in the Korean-language statement.
Officials at GM Daewoo weren't immediately available for comment.
Last month, GM Daewoo was forced to halt auto production at its main plant in Bupyeong, west of Seoul, for two days as the nation's top two tiremakers stopped tire supply because of disagreement in negotiations for tire prices.
In July, GM Daewoo saw its vehicle sales fall 13 percent from a year earlier to 77,373 units.
