PowerRating -- Alsius Corporation (Nasdaq: ALUS), which develops, manufactures,
markets and sells catheter-based intravascular temperature management
products to control patient temperature in hospital critical care
settings, reported yesterday (26 August) that its Solex heat exchange
catheter can now be marketed as it has received the 510(k) clearance
from the US Food and Drug Administration.
Developed by Alsius, Solex is a new catheter, which offers clinicians
maximum heat exchange power from a neck insertion, while providing
triple lumen central venous access, its serpentine balloon design
maximises surface area contact on a short, thin catheter and is a
proprietary feature. It is an addition to Alsius' family of catheters,
for use with the company's Thermogard XP and CoolGard 3000
Intravascular Temperature Management Systems.
Earlier this year, the company had introduced the Quattro catheter, a
four-balloon heat exchange catheter that provides increased surface
area and power for situations requiring insertion in the leg.
