SACRAMENTO, Calif., Aug 28, 2008 (ASCRIBE NEWS via COMTEX) -- IKAN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Ikanos Communications, a provider of broadband solutions for the digital home, announced that its high performance residential gateway products -- including the Fusiv Vx160 processor, voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) engine and multi-mode VDSL2/ADSL2+ chipsets -- have been integrated into Sagem Communications' residential gateway.

The Sagem F@st 3464 is being used as the customer premises equipment (CPE) for a major European carrier's next-generation VDSL2 access network, which is capable of delivering high definition Internet protocol television (HD IPTV), the company said.

Ikanos' residential gateway products are highly scalable and flexible. According to the company, the multi-mode VDSL2/ADSL2+ capability is designed to allow residential gateways to be deployed independent of the underlying central office (CO) technology, enabling a seamless upgrade from ADSL2+ to VDSL2 without the added expense of a future truck roll. Fusiv gateway processors also provide superior support for advanced triple play services through their distributed Accelerator Processor (AP) architectures. The on-chip APs offload broadband wireless local area network (WLAN) bridging, routing, switching and firewall functions from the host central processing unit (CPU), which is then available to perform advanced triple play and quality of service functions.

"Ikanos gave us a significant time-to-market advantage with its comprehensive and highly integrated silicon and software products," said Ahmed Selmani, managing director of the Residential Terminals Business Unit at Sagem Communications. "Ikanos' full-featured residential gateway solution delivers the industry's highest level of performance and scalability and supports the evolving high-value broadband services carriers want to provide to their customers."

Sagem Communications' F@st 3464 high performance residential gateway platform enables unparalleled IPTV performance by offering a highly programmable service-aware quality of service (QoS) implementation, the company said.

"We are pleased to extend our longstanding relationship with Sagem Communications to include VDSL2 platforms for the digital home," said Kumar Sivakumar, Ikanos Communications' senior vice president and general manager. "By selecting Ikanos Communications' complete residential gateway chipsets, Sagem Communications is validating the performance leadership, integration and scalability of our offerings. We believe that the superior features of our products make them ideally suited for supporting deployment of new, advanced services such as high-definition IPTV."
