ROCHESTER, N.Y., Sep 02, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- PAYX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- "You're in control" is the theme for this year's 401(k) Day celebration on September 5, 2008. The Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America (PSCA) sponsors 401(k) Day to highlight the value of employer sponsored profit-sharing and 401(k) plans. As retirement follows work, 401(k) Day falls on the Friday after Labor Day during National Payroll Week, an annual celebration of America's wage earners and the payroll professionals who see to it that they are paid accurately and on time.

More than 48,000 Paychex clients help their employees take control of retirement by offering 401(k) plans. CFO magazine recently named Paychex the nation's largest recordkeeper by total number of plans in its 2008 401(k) Providers Guide. In fact, Paychex administers one in every ten 401(k) plans, according to statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor.

"Planning and saving for retirement is important, whether you are just entering the workforce, getting settled in a career, or quickly approaching retirement," said Tony Tortorella, vice president of sales for Paychex's Human Resource Services division. "401(k) Day is a fun way to help us emphasize the importance and spread awareness about 401(k) plan participation."

About 401(k) Day and National Payroll Week

The Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America will have four distinct 401(k) Day campaigns, one for each demographic that employees fit into. The targeted campaigns will help plan sponsors increase awareness for contributions to 401(k) programs that will assist individuals in preparing for financial stability in retirement, regardless of what stage of life they are in.

Founded by the American Payroll Association in 1996, National Payroll Week celebrates the hard work of America's 156 million wage earners and the payroll professionals who pay them. Together, through the payroll withholding system, they contribute, collect, report, and deposit approximately $1.7 trillion, or 64.2 percent, of the annual revenue of the U.S. Treasury. Paychex is a platinum sponsor of National Payroll Week.
