Fuji Heavy, the maker of Subaru brand cars, now designs and makes components for military airplanes as well as for Boeing Co civilian jets, the business daily said.
By sending design engineers to Mitsubishi Aircraft, a unit of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Fuji Heavy aims to supply its know-how and help the short-handed Mitsubishi Aircraft.
Its cooperation will initially be in design alone, but Fuji Heavy hopes to receive orders for some parts in the future, the report said.
Mitsubishi Aircraft aims to begin test the new jet in 2011 and make the first delivery in 2013.
