The Horicon factory will produce the Gator utility vehicle, an open-air vehicle used for farm work or off-road driving. The plant already makes other models of the product and riding lawn mowers.
Other operations from the Welland closure will move to Monterrey and Saltillo, Mexico.
About 800 jobs will be affected by shuttering operations in Welland, and the company estimates that it will accrue $90 million in after-tax charges. The move should improve efficiency and profitability, Deere said in a release.
