"We're committed to remaining downtown and we're happy to be at 10 Main Center," said Justin Scott, a company spokesman.
The company signed a contract for 97,000 square feet in the 20-story office tower at 920 Main St. Cyrus Sakhai, a partner at Sovereign Partners, owner of the 295,000-square-foot building, said retaining AMC was a priority for his firm. The building is 78 percent occupied.
"They were excited about the renovations we've done and our commitment to downtown Kansas City," Sakhai said.
He estimated that more than $3 million in improvements had been completed since the firm purchased the building three years ago. Ten Main Center was completed in 1975.
In another downtown real estate move, HNTB Corp. has leased the sixth and seventh floors of an office building at 120 W. 12th St.
The 40,000 square feet will accommodate HNTB Federal Services Corp., part of the HNTB Cos. The operation needed additional space beyond its current headquarters in the former American Hereford Association building at 11th and Jefferson streets.
"Kansas City is home to nearly 800 professionals currently employed with the HNTB Cos.," said Joe McGonagle, CEO of HNTB Federal Services.
"A strong presence in Kansas City allows us to leverage the existing expertise within HNTB and provides us with a rich recruitment pool of talented engineers, architects, program managers and planners."
