Wipro Technologies to form engineering partnership with Harman International Industries Inc in India

PowerRating -- Wipro Technologies, the IT services business of Wipro Limited
(NYSE:WIT), a company that provides information technology services,
products and consumer care and lighting products, reported on 2
September that a joint embedded engineering centre was being launched
with Harman International Industries Inc (NYSE:HAR) in India. The new
venture complemented a previous agreement, outsourcing Harman's global
IT infrastructure services to Wipro.
The new Harman India Development Centre, formally commissioned in
Bangalore on 2 September, will operate from Wipro's existing Bangalore
and Chennai facilities. Harman plans to grow its engineering resources
in India to over 1000 persons by 2011, starting with a 250 employee
resource, to strengthen its engineering capabilities. The development
centre will develop audio and infotainment solutions in the automotive,
consumer and professional markets and Wipro will bring a variety of
capabilities to Harman's solutions and services, including software
development and related hardware engineering. All intellectual property
developed in the centre will be retained by Harman.
Harman International Industries Incorporated (NYSE:HAR) designs,
manufactures and markets a range of audio and infotainment products for
the automotive, consumer and professional markets.
