The company said that its total sales for the month increased 3% to $320 million, compared to $311.3 million for the four weeks ended September 1, 2007.
Total sales for the 30 weeks ended August 30 increased 1% to $1.649 billion, compared to $1.627 billion for the thirty weeks ended September 1, 2007. Comparable stores sales decreased 7% for the year-to-date period compared to the same thirty week period last year.
The company maintained its third quarter EPS guidance of $0.31 to $0.36, compared to $0.45 per share last year.
Pittsburgh-based American Eagle Outfitters designs, markets and sells its own brand of clothing targeting 15 to 25 year-olds. American Eagle operates 875 stores in 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico, and 77 AE stores in Canada.
American Eagle also operates online, and ships to more than sixty countries around the world. The American Eagle brand also includes a Dormwear collection, aerie, which is available in 83 standalone stores, American Eagle stores and at the company's site.
The company plans to launch a children's apparel brand, 77kids by american eagle, offering clothing and accessories for kids age two to ten.
