The company said its customers can access its BroadbandAccess and V CAST services in the following areas: along Lake Guntersville including the cities of Scottsboro, Hollywood, July Mountain, Section, Ider and Mentone; down Interstate 59 including the cities of Ft. Payne, Rainsville, Middle Ridge, Portersville, Collinsville, Leesburg, Centre, as well as east to Cedar Bluff and Bogan Mountain; and west towards Albertville, Boaz, New Hope and Columbus City.
Verizon Wireless' broadband network is based on CDMA 1x Evolution-Data Optimized (EV-DO) Revision A (Rev. A) technology and provides customers in north Alabama with speeds faster than the company's NationalAccess service. Customers in wireless broadband coverage areas can reportedly expect average download speeds of 600kb/s to 1.4Mb/s and average upload speeds of 500-800kb/s.
The company's V CAST service enables customers to play 3D games and stream video clips straight to handsets. It offers content updated daily so customers can watch a wide range of on-demand videos, including breaking news, weather, sports highlights and entertainment clips.
Verizon Wireless also said that, to date in 2008, it has invested over USD40m in Alabama.
