Whilst restoration and repair efforts are continuing, AT&T has reported that its wireless and wireline networks continue to perform well despite storm disruption. AT&T said that nearly 2,000 of its personnel have been deployed to the affected area to assist with operations.
AT&T has waived charges associated with a list of services in order to assist people who may not be able to return to their homes or businesses to stay in touch with friends, family and customers. Relief from these charges will be available until 3 October, and covers one free month of Voice Mail, Remote Access to Call Forwarding, Call Forwarding Don't Answer, Call Forwarding Busy Line, Remote Call Forwarding, Call Forwarding Variable, Message Waiting Indicator, Star98 Access and Voice Mail Companion Services Package.
AT&T has also enabled free Wi-Fi access in a variety of locations in, or near, the affected areas and has distributed a number of wireless phones with USD15 call credit to evacuees. The company is providing free phone calls for hurricane victims at all open company-owned retail locations across Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and portions of northwest Florida, including Pensacola, Fort Walton and Destin.
