Employees watching videos from Nico Nico Douga, acTVila and other video sources such as YouTube and news sites can cause a company's Internet gateway or branch office Wide Area Network (WAN) links to become overwhelmed and disrupt the performance of business-critical applications and communications. PacketShaper appliances can now identify traffic from these specific applications and apply policy to stop, restrict or optimize the traffic.
Blue Coat PacketShaper appliances provide visibility and control over network traffic to improve application monitoring and performance for any user, anywhere, across the networks of distributed enterprises. PacketShaper appliances work in conjunction with Blue Coat(R) ProxySG(R) appliances for WAN optimization and for Internet gateway control, optimization and acceleration.
PacketShaper appliances can currently identify and classify over 600 discrete applications, while providing the optimization needed to ensure the effectiveness of business applications and the proper utilization of network resources. In taking over the PacketShaper family of appliances as a part of acquiring Packeteer, Blue Coat is committed to advancing the application identification capabilities of PacketShaper appliances and providing deeper interoperability between ProxySG and PacketShaper appliances, to provide enterprises and organizations with more extensive application delivery capabilities.
"It is becoming increasingly critical for companies to gain visibility and control over the applications and traffic running on their networks," said Bethany Mayer, senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Blue Coat Systems. "We will continue to advance our product family to give enterprises and organizations the tools for greater visibility, acceleration, security and control of their networks and applications."
