Builders in the Tampa Bay area saw the third largest increase in customer satisfaction, according to a national study released by J.D. Power & Associates on Wednesday. Pulte and Centex Homes ranked highest in seven markets, including the Tampa Bay area.
The Tampa market includes Manatee and Sarasota counties as well as Hillsborough, Hernando, Pasco and Pinellas. The study, which measured 33 of the largest homebuying markets nationally, found more than 94 percent of new-home buyers in the Tampa market report receiving sales incentives.
"Satisfaction has increased substantially over the last year," said Paula Sonkin, vice president of the real estate and construction industry at J.D. Power & Associates.
Pulte is the developer of San Michele, a townhome community near the northwest corner of Lockwood Ridge Road and University Parkway, and Harrison Ranch in Parrish.
Centex is the developer of The Reserve at Crossing Creek, behind Creekwood just north of State Road 70. Neither Pulte nor Centex Homes officials returned phone calls for comment.
The study asked consumers to answer questions related to the overall experience of buying a home. Consumers then ranked what services were the most important.
People seemed to put emphasis on different aspects of the buying process than in years past, Sonkin said.
"This year the sales person became a primary driver of satisfaction," Sonkin said.
The change is in part due to the difficult market. Builders are offering more and slower times mean the individual customer gets more personalized attention.
