Sep 12, 2008 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- TXN | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Semiconductor company Texas Instruments has introduced a video development platform that enables media gateway equipment manufacturers as well as the broadcast community to build customized multi-channel video solutions for next-generation video applications.

Combining Texas Instruments's (TI's) Tnetv3020 multi-core digital signal processor (DSP), open-framework video software and a reference board, the new video development platform reduces development time for multimedia processing equipment manufacturers.

According to the company, its video development platform supports today's codecs such as H.264, MPEG4 and H.263 with an eye towards tomorrow's requirements. These codecs are required to support 3G gateway, IMS Multimedia Servers and IPTV applications.

TI's open-framework video software platform also equips broadcast equipment designers with the freedom to build on an existing framework, customize applications and subsequently, reduce their development time and bill of material (BOM) costs.

TI's Tnetv3020 is a multicore DSP that easily meets the processing requirements of video media gateway, video transcoding, and video content management. The multi-level memory architecture of the Tnetv3020 reduces the overall chip count and the optimized horsepower and flexibility of the DSP enables original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to drastically increase channel density, improve quality of experience to subscribers and also easily adapt to dynamically changing video requirements. The software framework runs on the Tnetv3020 platform, which is based on the C64x+DSP.

John Smrstik, general manager of video infrastructure business at TI, said: "We now live in a video-driven YouTube society and TI is applying its video technology to respond to this market that will grow significantly in 2009. Our customers have asked for more flexibility combined with greater performance, enabling service providers to save precious network bandwidth. Our new video development platform meets these needs while speeding development."
