PowerRating -- Western Union Foundation, the arm that creates economic opportunity, of
the Western Union (NYSE: WU), a provider of a range of money transfer
and bill payment services, said on 12 September that in order for CARE
to help the relief efforts after the storms that have recently affected
Haiti, the Foundation has donated USD25,000 to it.
CARE's Haiti country director, Sophie Perez comments that the priority
is to reach the most vulnerable people, including women, children and
people living with HIV and AIDS. So CARE's priority is to provide safe
water to residents in Haiti and take emergency food supplies to
affected communities.
The Our World, Our Family programme of Western Union, has provided
relief donations in Belize, Haiti and Jamaica, amounting to USD175,000,
together with the contributions of Western Union Agents. This is a
five-year initiative for migrant families to get educated and empowered
to take advantage of global economic opportunity programmes that help
them overcome obstacles and achieve what their desires.
