Samsung accounted for 34 per cent of all sales of MCPs last year, outpacing its nearest rivals Intel Corp. and Toshiba Corp., with shares of 17.6 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively, market researcher iSuppli said in the report.
MCP products are popular in high-end mobile phones and other digital devices that require advanced memory capability. The demand for such high-storage chips is growing on the back of increased sales of portable devices.
Samsung Electronics, which had a market share of 30.8 per cent in 2006 in the MCP area, has been the leading MCP maker since 2004.
The company's feat is notable considering its comparatively higher price tags for MPCs. Samsung's average MCP price stood at US$9.25 last year while Intel and Toshiba's products traded at an average $5.08 and $8.38, respectively.
The report assessed Samsung as possessing the leading technological capability in the mobile memory market for handsets, providing cost-effective memory solutions based on NOR-flash products.
