Manufacturing of systems based on the platform has begun by NEC COMPUTERTECHNO, a subsidiary of NEC located in Kofu, Yamanashi, Japan and each company will market the systems under its own brand. Development was undertaken under an alliance agreement signed by the companies in 2006 to reduce research and development costs.
Systems based on the common platform are targeted for high-end enterprise computing tasks such as database-intensive activities, enterprise requirements planning (ERP) and server consolidation using virtualisation technologies. The systems employ Intel Xeon Processors and can scale up to 16 sockets and 96 processor cores with support for up to 1 terabyte (TB) of memory.
