CRM Holdings Leads Monday's AMBG as Global Insurance Index Declines 5.18%

OLDWICK, N.J., Sep 16, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- LSCLF | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Monday, Sept. 15, at 957.82 (-5.18%). All 15 A.M. Best stock indexes declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were CRM Holdings (+9.69%) and Fairfax Financial Holdings (+2.77%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were American International Group (-60.79%) and Protective Life Corp. (-13.60%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 1030.99 (-6.41%)%. Leading the AMBEUR were Novae Group plc (+2.42%) and Hiscox (+2.30%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Aegon N.V. (-10.40%) and Prudential plc (-9.26%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1252.94 (-0.51%). Leading the AMBAP were Aioi Insurance Co. Ltd. (0.00%) and China Insurance International Holdings (0.00%). Trailing the AMBAP were QBE Insurance Group Ltd. (-4.96%) and Singapore Reinsurance Corp. (-3.85%).

The Global Reinsurance Index (AMBGR) closed at 1098.94 (-3.16%). Leading the AMBGR were PartnerRe (+1.27%) and Ace (+1.25%). Trailing the AMBGR were Aegon N.V. (-10.40%) and Axa S.A. (-8.52%).

The Global Broker Index (AMBGB) closed at 1115.53 (-2.73%). Leading the AMBGB were Benfield Group (-0.81%) and Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (-1.63%). Trailing the AMBGB were Willis Group Holdings (-6.35%) and Brown & Brown (-3.28%).

The Global Multi-Line Insurance Index (AMBGML) closed at 727.72 (-10.17%). Leading the AMBGML were RSA Insurance Group plc (+0.13%) and Atlantic American Corp. (0.00%). Trailing the AMBGML were AIG (-60.79%) and Axa S.A. (-8.52%).

The U.S. Life Insurance Index (AMBUL) closed at 1175.14 (-5.32%). Leading the AMBUL were Manulife Financial (-1.51%) and Nationwide Financial Services (-2.70%). Trailing the AMBUL were Protective Life Corp. (-13.60%) and Independence Holding Co. (-11.29%).

The U.S. Life and Health/HMO Insurance Index (AMBULH) closed at 1080.56 (-4.56%). Leading the AMBULH were Universal American (-1.45%) and Manulife Financial (-1.51%). Trailing the AMBULH were Protective Life Corp. (-13.60%) and Penn Treaty American (-12.04%).

The U.S. Health and HMO Index (AMBUH) closed at 978.20 (-3.56%). Leading the AMBUH were Universal American (-1.45%) and WellPoint (-2.07%). Trailing the AMBUH were Penn Treaty American (-12.04%) and UnitedHealth Group (-5.40%).

The U.S. Insurance Brokers Index (AMBUB) closed at 1097.48 (-2.84%). Leading the AMBUB were Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. (-1.63%) and Aon (-2.28%). Trailing the AMBUB were Willis Group Holdings (-6.35%) and Brown & Brown (-3.28%).
