Citrix outlines cloud computing strategy

Sep 17, 2008 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- CTXS | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Citrix Systems has outlined its cloud computing strategy and a introduced a new product family for hosting, managing, and delivering cloud-based computing services.

It said the Citrix C3 family integrates "cloud proven" virtualization with networking products and offers providers a set of service delivery infrastructure building blocks for cloud-based services.

It includes a reference architecture that combines the capabilities of various Citrix product lines to offer a service-based infrastructure for large-scale, on-demand delivery of both IT infrastructure and application services. The architecture consists of four key components: XenServer Cloud Edition, NetScaler, WANScaler, and Workflow Studio to provide value-added security, high-availability, multi-tenant services.

Citrix has also partnered with cloud computing technology and utility computing services firm 3Tera. The new C3 offering will be combined with 3Tera's AppLogic cloud computing platform to provide enterprise-grade cloud computing applications to customers of all sizes.

Wes Wasson, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at Citrix Systems, said: "More than 215,000 enterprise customers rely on our Citrix Delivery Center products every day to deliver applications and desktops as a cloud-like service to their users. Our new Citrix Cloud Center (C3) offering extends these same capabilities to an emerging generation of cloud service providers. The Xen hypervisor powers world's largest cloud providers today, and NetScaler delivers web applications to an estimated 75% of all internet users each day. By integrating these proven technologies with workflow orchestration and datacenter optimization capabilities, and working with hundreds of partners around the world, Citrix will play a major role in making the cloud computing era a practical reality for consumers and corporate users alike."
