DoCoMo completed its purchase of a 30 per cent stake in TM International (Bangladesh) Limited (TMIB) by acquiring all the issued and paid-up shares of TMIB previously held by A.K. Khan & Co. Ltd. and its four group companies, TMI said in a statement to Bursa Malaysia.
TMI's President & Group Chief Executive Officer, Dato Jamaludin Ibrahim said, "Since our demerger TMI has been focused on bringing positive change to the group."
"As such we are very excited at the prospect of working with DoCoMo whose wealth of expertise will bring a new perspective as well as an invaluable dimension to TMIB on driving superior performance and market growth."
"With the new shareholding we are confident that customers can look forward to even better products and services from TMIB."
He said the new partnership will go a long way towards unlocking the future potential of TMIB and to efforts in developing the telco industry in Bangladesh.
TMIB, trading under the brand name Aktel, operates a cellular GSM service in Bangladesh. With over 7 million subscribers Aktel has a 24 per cent share of the market.
