The lab, named Baidu-Nankai University Parallel and Distribution Software Labs, will combine the university's superiority in computing and applications with Baidu's experience in market applications to develop online storage, search, administration and applications and speed up the technology-product marketization.
In addition to technology R&D, the collaborators will cultivate talents for the booming search engine industry, expecting to make the new software lab one of China's search engine research bases in the future.
The Nasdaq-listed company plans to set up four or five such software labs in around one year in cooperation with domestic universities, which will help train search engine talents at the same time.
Setting up software labs with renowned universities is also part of Baidu's efforts to snare more talents, pointed out industry insiders.
