InformationWeek Honors National Semiconductor

MADRID, Spain, Sep 24, 2008 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) -- NSM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- InformationWeek (InfoWeek) has named National Semiconductor the most innovative technology organization in the U.S., topping a list of 500 organizations.

InfoWeek recognized National for the company's expanded technology solutions that enhance productivity and customers' time to market as well as communication tools that strengthen employees' ability to communicate more efficiently internally and externally with customers, suppliers, and technology partners. In 2007, InfoWeek named National the second most innovative technology organization.

During 2008, National's Information Services (I.S.) experts created "Virtual Inventory," which allows distributors to quote delivery status to end customers using their standard in-house systems. When customers inquire about a new product, they may be looking at a distributor's inventory, or they may be looking directly at National's Virtual Inventory, thus cutting out the middle-man and ensuring the part is in stock. When using the Virtual Inventory system, National assures its distributors a world transit time in one to three days, with an end consumer delivery date in as little as two weeks.

Other I.S. innovations recognized by InfoWeek stem from National's executive team's desire to strengthen collaboration internally. This provided the I.S. team with the idea to create the "Collaboration Toolbox." National's experts designed the Collaboration Toolbox as an innovative way to leverage existing tools and add new ones, including GoTo Meeting, Sametime chat client, Skype's voice over internet protocol (VoIP), and videoconference networks made easy by a Citrix Systems application. A single launch pad was developed for consolidation by utilizing the development kit within Google Desktop, making the Collaboration Toolbox easy to find and easy to use.
