Sep 26, 2008 (York Daily Record - McClatchy-Tribune News Service via COMTEX) -- HOG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Sep. 26--Rain won't wash out today's York Bike Night parade, which brings thousands of Harley-Davidson riders downtown every year.

"At this point, we're going forward," said Kelley Gibson, special events coordinator for the City of York.

A subtropical storm was expected to deliver between 1 and 2 inches of rain to York County from Thursday night into today, AccuWeather.com senior meteorologist Bob Smerbeck said.

The heavy rains might be farther to the east by the time the parade starts at 6 p.m., but that depends on if the storm shifts from its expected track. Parade goers should be prepared for some rain, he said.

The only time the parade was canceled in its 14-year history was six years ago when Tropical Storm Isidore brought wet, windy weather to the area, Gibson said.

And some motorcycle enthusiasts complained about it, saying bikers are tough and would have ridden in the parade.

The only way it would be canceled this year is if conditions, such as high winds, would put people in danger, Gibson said.

Planners have already taken some precautions, such as making sure the three bands that will be performing will be protected by tents or buildings from the rain, she said.

FORECAST

The weekend won't be a washout, but the weather won't be as delightful as earlier this week.

Today will be chilly and raw with rain, according to AccuWeather.com senior meteorologist Bob

Smerbeck. Highs will be in the mid-60s.

Saturday will be cloudy with a little bit of rain. The high will be near 70 degrees. Sunday will be cloudy -- with some possible breaks of sun -- with the temperature reaching the mid-70s.
