According to the House of Blues owner, concert industry powerhouse Live Nation, the new 50,000-square-foot music venue with a $14 million price tag could have its first act on stage as early as February.
"It is still expected to be an early February opening, but we do not have a firm date yet," said Live Nation public relations manager Heidi Collins.
Project manager Aidan J. Scully did not return calls seeking comment.
Drivers along the Mass Pike have been able to witness the construction of the House of Blues from the highway throughout the summer. Most of the skeletal work has been completed, and a metal shell encasing the building was erected earlier this month.
The Boston House of Blues is expected to hold up to 2,500 people with both seated and general admission sections.
Fratellis cancel gig
The Fratellis have thrown a "Chelsea Dagger" through the hearts of their Boston fans. The English band's Friday gig at the Orpheum has been canceled.
A representitive from Universal Music told Hotline the band nixed the rest of its North American tour "due to bereavement," but declined to supply further details.
While we're pretty much over the iPod-loving Fratelli lads, we're bummed to miss the planned opening act, Los Angeles' indie quartet Airborne Toxic Event, who you'd swear were from the UK and have been pegged as a band to watch in 2009.
Refunds are available at point of purchase.
