When complete, this HomeAid-designed duplex will provide dignified housing for two individual families of homeless mothers with children. The facility is being constructed in Pontiac -- one of Michigan's Cities of Promise.
The Rhonda Hart House is part of Grace's comprehensive housing program. With an estimated retail value of $225,000, this project is being constructed at a 40 percent savings thanks to the support from HomeAid Michigan, Pulte Homes and both organizations' building partners.
"Michigan Association of Home Builders (MAHB) chief executive officer Bob Filka said, "In just over one year of operation, the HomeAid model is launching its efforts exactly how we anticipated." Filka continued, "Thanks to the support and leadership provided by Pulte Homes from our local Building Industry Association (BIA) of Southeast Michigan, what started as a vision, is now becoming a reality."
When asked about the project and his company's involvement, Pulte Homes division president Steve Atchison said, "Pulte is pleased to be a national partner with HomeAid and proud to serve as builder captain on its first project here in Michigan."
By harnessing the generously donated time, expertise and in-kind resources provided by members like Pulte Homes, HomeAid Michigan is able to adopt housing projects like the Rhonda Hart House for homeless individuals and families. Generosity is a central theme for HomeAid Michigan, as the organization got its start following a generous donation made by Michigan-based building industry leader, Masco Corporation. Masco is also donating all the cabinetry for the Rhonda Hart House.
HomeAid Michigan executive director Jeff Muoio said, "Our partnership with Grace Centers of Hope is a natural fit." Muoio continued, "We count it a privilege to add capacity to an organization like Grace that is ending homelessness systemically, by addressing addictions, strengthening education and providing dignified housing."
Eighty-five percent of the children who make their home at Grace Centers of Hope or in Little Grace Village are on the honor roll in Pontiac schools.
