Sony Corp. (TSE:6758) is displaying the world's thinnest 40-inch LCD TV, which is just 9.9mm thick. In addition to this product, which is to be launched in November, the electronics giant is also showing a prototype OEL (organic electroluminescence) TV whose thinnest section measures a mere 0.9mm.
Sharp Corp. (TSE:6753) is exhibiting 52- and 65-inch LCD TVs that are 2.28cm at their thinnest. Their store prices will likely come to around 980,000 yen (US$9,227) for the 52-inch set and about 1.28 million yen for the 65-inch product.
Energy-saving-related technologies are also prominent at many companies' booths.
Toshiba Corp.'s (TSE:6502) include a personal computer equipped with a fast-recharging battery, as well as a cellular phone handset powered by a small fuel cell.
Panasonic Corp. (TSE:6752), formerly Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., is showing off the Life Wall, a sensor-equipped wide-screen TV that occupies an entire wall and offers various functions, such as videotelephony.
Ceatec Japan 2008 will be held until Saturday.
