Oct 02, 2008 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- NANX | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Nanophase Technologies (Nasdaq: NANX), a developer, manufacturer and seller of engineered nanomaterial products, disclosed yesterday (1 October) that management responsibilities within the company have been realigned and promotions have taken place internally.

Jess Jankowski, acting CEO, VP and CFO, stated that an internal Technology Forum, headed by Richard Brotzman PhD, chief technology officer, has been formed. The team is comprised of several of the company's key executives in operations, sales, finance and engineering, who will work collaboratively. This is expected to give Nanophase a more structured team approach to managing its competitive position.

The management promotions that support the new team are: Patrick Murray PhD, who joined Nanophase in 2001, has been named VP of research and development, reporting directly to Jankowski. He will lead the research and development efforts to support sales and marketing initiatives.

VP of sales and marketing is David Nelson, a position that brings together sales, marketing and customer service responsibilities, streamlining the reporting structure. Nelson joined the company in 2007 and has 15 years of sales, marketing and business development experience.

The VP of human resources and information technology is Nancy Baldwin, taking both human resources and IT to senior management-level functions. She joined Nanophase in 2000 and will continue to manage the company's investor relations in addition to her new duties. Meanwhile Susan Barrett has been promoted to manager of administration and information technology, reporting to Baldwin.

The assistant VP of operations is Glenn Judd, a newly created role that is intended to broaden the emphasis on operations at the senior management level. He will also continue as director of engineering and will report to Robert Haines, VP of operations. Judd has been with the company since early 2000.

Sherman Jung has been named controller, with additional responsibilities including oversight of costing/financial analysis, operational accounting and financial reporting. He has been with the company since 1999 and is a CPA. Jung will be a member of the Technology Forum, joining Jankowski, Haines, Nelson, Murray, principal scientist Harry Sarkas PhD and Brotzman.
