The WiMAX wireless platform is based on Motorola's WMP1000 technology and will enable service providers to establish connectivity directly at the edge of the network. It works with the Enfora Service Gateway that enables businesses to control and manage mobile assets from existing enterprise applications.
Enfora said the platform will be targeted at vertical markets such as automotive, healthcare, and energy, where there is growing demand for WiMAX-enabled devices.
Jeff Newman, chief strategy officer at Enfora, said: "We have seen a gap in the M2M market for higher bandwidth and remote access that traditional wireless technologies have not been able to fill in a cost-effective way. WiMAX technology is well positioned to fill that gap and to enable many different applications for vertical markets such as lone-worker monitoring, in-vehicle telematics, security monitoring, and energy monitoring."
According to Strategy Analytics, the mobile M2M communications annual market is expected to grow from less than $16 billion in 2008 to over $57 billion in 2014 at a CAGR of 24%.
