OLDWICK, N.J., Oct 03, 2008 (A. M. Best via COMTEX) -- HIG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The AMBG closed Thursday, Oct. 2, at 914.43 (-3.89%). All 15 A.M. Best stock indexes declined. Leading A.M. Best's Global Insurance Composite Index (AMBG) were Chaucer Holdings (+14.69%) and Brit Insurance Holdings (+8.15%). Trailing the list of global insurance stocks were Hartford Financial Services Group (-32.01%) and Principal Financial Group (-16.26%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index led the sector indexes, with the U.S. Multi-Line Insurance Index trailing the list. In descending order, the A.M. Best Insurance Stock Indexes closed at:

The European Insurance Index (AMBEUR) closed at 975.70 (-3.83%)%. Leading the AMBEUR were Chaucer Holdings (+14.69%) and Brit Insurance Holdings (+8.15%). Trailing the AMBEUR were Old Mutual plc (-9.59%) and Axa S.A. (-8.94%).

The Asia/Pacific Insurance Index (AMBAP) closed at 1295.59 (-0.37%). Leading the AMBAP were Tower Ltd. (+5.11%) and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance Co. Ltd. (+3.57%). Trailing the AMBAP were Korean Reinsurance Co. (-4.22%) and Nissay Dowa General Insurance (-2.82%).
