Oct 03, 2008 (Fort Worth Star-Telegram - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- SMRT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Bratwurst and wiener dogs: Southlake Chamber of Commerce's seventh annual Oktoberfest starts today! The celebration is 5 -11 p.m. today, 10 a.m.-11p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. While strolling beautiful Southlake Town Square, you'll find unique arts and crafts, great food and live entertainment, including performance by Emerald City on Friday and Le Freak on Saturday night! The popular wiener-dog races will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Visit www.southlakechamber.org for more details.

Give and receive: Give a gently used garment to the Salvation Army today and Saturday, and receive a coupon for 20 percent off one item at any Stein Mart in the Metroplex -- up to four coupons per customer. Tax receipts will be available when you bring your donation to Stein Mart. You have to redeem the coupon that day! Thanks to Bonnie Kurtz, agenda consultant, for spreading the good cheer. Her e-mail address is bonniekurtz@tx.rr.com.

Wash-a-thon: Bring your car to be washed and leave the dirty work to the L.D. Bell High School Choir, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Albertsons parking lot on Airport Freeway and in the Kroger parking lot on Main Street in Euless. Donations are accepted.

Creating independence: Grapevine Heritage AMBUCS presents the seventh annual Big Bike Run for Little Tryke Funds, starting at noon Sunday, in front of Wilhoite's in Grapevine. This event raises funds to purchase therapeutic AmTrykes for children with disabilities. There is a $20 entry fee. For additional information, contact Lori Choate at 817-975-5611.

Take flight: At the C.R. Smith Museum, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, the Wings Foundation will host the "View From The Heart Benefit." It's a fundraiser with an array of activities: silent auction, raffles, door prizes, a vintage uniform fashion show and a buffet lunch. Wings Foundation supports American Airlines flight attendants who are in financial difficulty due to an accident, illness or disability. For more information, visit www.wingsfoundation.com or call President Patty Baker at 817-379-0703. The chairs of the event are Betty Langfitt and Jo Coleman.

Eat and run: Make lunch plans with the H.E.B. Retired School Employees on Oct 7 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Pat May Center in Bedford. You can have a burger from Outback Steakhouse, chips, cookie and a drink for $7. All proceeds will buy books for H-E-B schoolchildren, from elementary to high school. Call the event chairwomen, Donna Carruth and Jo Eubank, at 817-595-5774 for advance tickets because you won't be able to buy them at the door! Last year, they bought 3,741 books, that's a big hamburger order!
