* Memory Walk: The Memory Walk to benefit the fight against Alzheimer's will be held at 10 a.m at Kiwanis Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m. For more information, call (919) 776-0501 ext. 230.
* Haircuts for cancer: Hairstylists from Sanford's SmartStyle Family Hair Salon located in Wal-Mart will contribute their time to join a nationwide cause to produce 6,000 haircuts to raise money for breast cancer research from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The haircuts cost $10 and breast cancer awareness purses will be on sale for $1. * Nature Clean-up: The North Carolina Big Sweep Litter Cleanup will be held at 9 a.m. at San-Lee Park, 10 a.m. at Carbonton Dam Park and/or Deep River Park. For more information call Lee County Solid Waste 718-4622.
* Yard sale: A yard sale to benefit the American Cancer Society will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m at Carolina Women's Fitness Center, 99 Center Church Road. Clean, sellable clothing and other items can be dropped off at gym through Oct. 3 as donations for the sale. Additionally, rental space at the yard sale can be purchased for $10. Day with the dogs
* Animal blessing: The Blessing of the Animals will take place at Deep River Park off Cumnock Road from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The blessing will take place at 1 p.m. at Camelback Bridge. Dogs must be on leash, cats and other small critters must be in carriers. Birds must be in cages for their own safety. Food and pet vendors on hand with proceeds going to Carolina Animal Rescue and Adoption. Call (919) 774-9433 for more information.

* Proof: The Temple Theatre will host the play "Proof" at the Black Box Theatre at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at the theater's box office from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday, 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, or one hour before showtime; by phone telecharge at (919) 774-4155.
Fairs and fun

* Lake Day: Jordan Lake Heritage Day will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the White Oak day use area off of Highway 64. Celebrate the unique cultural and natural resources of the region. * Ramblin' Band: Raymond Bradley and the Ramblin' Fever Band will perform country classics, gospel and oldies from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Kendale Cinema in Sanford. The even will include performances by special guest Teresa Baker and the Bradley Kids. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children.
