GCOM | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Spacenet, a provider of satellite networking services, announced that it has teamed with Globecomm Services Maryland, a division of Globecomm Systems, a supplier of end-to-end value-added satellite-based communication products, services and solutions, to support its expansion of services to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

Spacenet will offer both custom and pre-packaged satellite solutions for voice, video, and data communications exclusively for US based enterprise and government organizations with overseas operations. In support of the new services, Globecomm will provide high security co-location facilities and international logistics including installation and field maintenance. Spacenet will design and manage the international services network, as well as provide 24 x 7 customer support.

The new international satellite services, provided by Spacenet and Globecomm, help to solve not only the logistical challenges of communicating with overseas operations, but many of the quality and security concerns as well. Remote satellite (VSAT) terminals are linked to geosynchronous satellites that are connected to a secure teleport just outside of Washington D.C. Critical customer data never has to land in foreign facilities or traverse uncertain local infrastructures. All sites can be connected directly to US telecom networks including the Internet and public switched telephone network (PSTN). International locations can also be connected directly to private networks or handed-off to certified gateways for access to high security government environments.

The companies stated that customers of the new international services benefit from the combined expertise and capabilities. The core satellite network infrastructure is based on Spacenet's field proven SkyEdge VSAT system and will be managed through its 24 x 7 Network Operations Centers in Atlanta, Georgia and McLean, Virginia. The teleport facility, operated by Globecomm Services Maryland, houses the satellite hub and master earth stations and provides common carrier interconnections, enabling a government-grade secure network. Globecomm is also providing in-field logistics for in-country installation and maintenance for over 60 countries covered by the new service.

Globecomm Senior Vice President Bill Raney said, "Teaming with Spacenet enables Globecomm to offer our customers more options in advanced networking for their remote operations around the globe. In addition, the combination of Spacenet's exclusive Cisco Network Module and SkyEdge VSAT system offers customers the benefit of industry leading satellite performance and seamless integration into their existing networks."

Spacenet Senior Vice President David Myers said, "Enterprise and government organizations alike are looking for more secure and reliable ways to provide communications to their operations abroad. Many international communication solutions rely on a series of outsourced 'virtual operators.' The Spacenet and Globecomm alliance is different in that it provides a trusted US based network that can improve operational efficiency and mitigate some of the communication risks of international operations."
