The company is moving most of the 40 employees from a much smaller center at 5215 Charter Oaks Drive to the new center. Fifty new jobs are planned within two to three years and 100 jobs within five years as part of the expansion.
The building has room for 34 vans, nearly twice as many as on Charter Oaks Drive, and is part of a multibillion-dollar national expansion of 280 similar facilities by 2011. That will nearly double FedEx Ground's shipment capacity to 5.5 million packages daily.
Nick's Family Sports Pub at 3690 James-Sanders Blvd. is being transformed into Buckets Sports Food and Fun.

He said the official changeover is planned for late October. Drop ceilings, new paint inside and out, decks and other changes are taking place, along with a revamped menu including specialty pizzas, wraps and other items.
LaGore, who owns restaurants in larger cities, said combining eating and entertainment is the latest trend.
"With the economy like it is, people are eating out one or two times a week versus three times a week," he said.

Darryl Armstrong of Eddyville has added aggression management training to his more than 35 years' experience in communications and crisis management work.
Recently certified through the Center for Aggression Management, he is traveling around the country doing workshops tailored for companies, schools, hospitals, police and other groups. Last month, he held a two-day workshop in Mississippi with the Mississippi Attorney General's Office and the Mississippi Department of Education.
Armstrong has another session scheduled at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla., in a few weeks.
The training helps people recognize early signs of aggression so there is a much greater chance of preventing violence, he said. Information: www.armstrongandassociates.org and www.aggressionmanagement.com.
