Roger Thomas, Executive Vice President, North America of Nexen Inc. elected Chair of Canadian Chamber

QUEBEC, Oct. 5, 2008 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX) -- NXYW | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Roger Thomas, Executive Vice President, North America of Nexen Inc. of Calgary, AB, was appointed volunteer Chair of the Board of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce for 2008-2009 at its Annual General Meeting in Quebec City today (biography attached).

Roger Thomas was appointed Executive Vice President, North America of Nexen Inc. in November 2007. Prior to this, he held the position of Senior Vice President, Canadian Oil and Gas since January 1998.

Since joining the corporation in 1978, Mr. Thomas has held a variety of positions including Business Manager, Specialty Chemicals Division; Division Vice President, Oil & Gas Marketing; and Division Vice President, Corporate Planning.

Mr. Thomas attended both the University of Toronto and York University, graduating in 1974 with a B.A. in Economics and History. He is also a graduate of the Executive Program at the University of Michigan.

Active in industry and community associations, Mr. Thomas has been a member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors since May 2002. He is President of the Alberta Chamber of Resources and a Governor and Past Chairman of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP). He also serves as Division Co-Chair for the Calgary United Way Engineering, Energy Services Supply Division and as a Director of Careers: The Next Generation.

He is a past Director of The Nature Conservancy of Canada, The Adult Learning Centre, Ranch Ehrlo Foundation, the Calgary Science Centre, The Canadian Petroleum Hall of Fame Society and the Petroleum Technology Research Centre.
