The Hartford Names Greg McGreevey Chief Investment Officer

HARTFORD, Conn., Oct 06, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- HIG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- The Hartford Financial Services Group, Inc. (NYSE: HIG | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating) today announced that Greg McGreevey has been appointed executive vice president and chief investment officer for the company, and president of Hartford Investment Management Company. McGreevey will report to Ramani Ayer, chairman and chief executive officer of The Hartford, and will also be a member of the company's Office of the Chairman. McGreevey joined the firm in August and succeeds David Znamierowski, who will be leaving the company.

"Greg is a seasoned investment expert with a demonstrated track record of success," said The Hartford's chairman and chief executive officer Ramani Ayer. "He has the necessary leadership experience to spearhead our investment strategy and help us navigate through this very volatile marketplace. Greg and his team are already immersed in our business and are working to reduce the risk profile of our portfolio. Dave has been dedicated to serving The Hartford for more than 12 years, and we wish him well in his future endeavors."

McGreevey joined The Hartford as chief investment officer for insurance portfolios, most recently from ING Investment Management, where he was vice chairman and executive vice president of ING Investment Management -- Americas. In that role, he led three of the company's divisions, including ING's North American Proprietary Investments, ING Institutional Markets and Lion Custom Investments I and II. While head of Proprietary Investments, McGreevey's team produced top performance within the group from 2004-2006, in terms of investment results relative to external benchmarks, investment earnings and returns on capital. McGreevey also served in several leadership roles at ING, including as a member of the Management Council of ING Group and as chairman of several committees, including the Interest Rate, ALM, Credit, and Investment Committees.

A chartered financial analyst, McGreevey earned a bachelor's degree in marketing and management from the University of Portland and a master's degree in business administration from Portland State University.
