CHICAGO, Oct 06, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NIPNY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- NEC Corporation of America, a premier provider of IT, network and retail solutions, today announced two complete point-of-sale (POS) transaction management systems designed for retailers ranging from small to large that want to lower costs and simplify the checkout experience for customers.

Unveiled at the 2008 National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) Show, the TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 are the next generation of NEC POS systems; offering the flexibility and reliability demanded by the retail industry. NEC's new base POS units were designed leveraging NEC's 40 years of experience in providing innovative solutions for some of the world's largest retailers; and offer the high quality required for mission-critical applications running 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week.

"NEC's enhanced POS offerings of software, hardware and custom POS solution development provide dependable quality and reliability for retailers," said Naohide Takatani, general manager, Retail Solutions Division of NEC Corporation of America. "Our customers will continue to have the flexibility to purchase individual components or a complete solution package to meet their unique needs."

NEC's TwinPOS 5500 operates on either Microsoft(R) Windows(R) Embedded for the Point of Service (WEPOS) or Linux, and is ideally suited for retail environments, such as grocery and convenience stores, as well as quick-service environments. For enhanced functionality, customers can add a magnetic card reader and customer display unit to the NEC TwinPOS 5500. In addition, the NEC TwinPOS 5500 and TwinPOS 3500 feature enough power and memory to additionally support back office functions.

TwinPOS 3500 features a 2.5 GB flash storage with zero spindle architecture to minimize hardware failure.
