In a letter to area customers, Comcast officials said the company is adjusting bills to account for increased costs to the company, such as gas, health care costs for employees, and hiring and training more employees.
The letter said the company seeks to maintain costs "in today's challenging economic environment," and that the company has also been making investments in new programming and technology such as OnDemand services and high definition choices.
Comcast spokesman Jeff Alexander said the company is not increasing prices for people who have more than one Comcast service, a "multi-product bundle" such as the Comcast Triple Play.
He said the company has been "highly focused" on controlling costs, but the increase is necessary because of the company's increased costs and expected increases in the cost of sports programming. Alexander said the increase is "well under the rate of inflation," and Comcast has added services such as several high-definition channels.
According to the letter, the Nov. 1 program increases are as follows:
--Cable service monthly for limited basic service is now $19.75, will increase to $19.95.
--Expanded basic service will increase from $32.20 to $35.70.
--Standard cable, which includes limited and expanded basic, will increase from $51.95 to $55.65.
--The digital starter will increase from $53.95 to $57.65.
According
to the letter, people who have been offered a promotional price for a service will continue to be charged the promotional rate until the promotion expires.
