PowerRating -- Comparable store sales at American Eagle Outfitters Inc. were down 6 percent in September compared with a year ago. The South Side-based clothing retailer also said Wednesday it narrowed earnings guidance for the third quarter, to 31 to 34 cents per share. Previously, the guidance was 31 to 36 cents, and in last year's comparable period, the earnings forecast was 45 cents. Overall, American Eagle's sales were up 3 percent for the five weeks ended Oct. 6, to $229.2 million, when newer stores and business segments are included.
