BEIJING, Oct 09, 2008 (XFN-ASIA via COMTEX) -- VLKAY | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- Volkswagen Group China said its sales in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau rose 13.1 pct in the first nine months to 772,783 units, meeting its target despite challenges such as the global economic downturn, rising raw material prices and natural disasters.

Sales of the Volkswagen brand rose 7.5 pct to 637,857 units, including 8,155 imported vehicles, the German automaker said in a statement.

Audi sales were up 19.2 pct at 89,715 units, including 9,899 imports, while Skoda sold 44,829 cars, up 218.1 pct.

The automaker also sold 209 Bentleys and 73 Lamborghinis.

Volkswagen, which has two local joint ventures -- Shanghai Volkswagen and FAW-Volkswagen -- said new model launches and upgrades to services helped it meet its nine-month sales target.

Volkswagen Group China's chief executive Winfried Vahland said the company still targets one mln sales this year.
