At about 2 a.m., James Stephen Dean, 54, was found trespassing on the railroad tracks near Paisano by Union Pacific police. When the officers approached Dean, he threw objects at the officers and fled. Dean was caught, he pulled out a knife and stabbed Officer Rogelio Quinonez in the right leg.
Dean fled again and was caught outside of the Rescue Mission, but refused to drop his knife despite repeated requests from El Paso and Union Pacific police, prompting an El Paso police officer to fire his Taser at Dean. Dean was charged with aggravated assault against a public servant, assault on a public servant and resisting arrest, search or transportation, and booked into the El Paso County Jail.
