Oct 10, 2008 (M2 EQUITYBITES via COMTEX) -- VSAT | Quote | Chart | News | PowerRating -- ViaSat Inc (Nasdaq:VSAT), a provider of satellite and other digital communication products, announced on Thursday (9 October) that the company has been awarded an additional order valued at approximately USD2.97m for Multifunctional Information Distribution System (MIDS) terminals from the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR).

The company said that the present order augments the USD59m Lot 9 delivery orders received by ViaSat as part of the MIDS annual Lot procurements. This new Lot 9 add-on is for LVT (11) ground-based Low Volume Terminals.

ViaSat is reportedly one of two US government-qualified manufacturers of Link 16 MIDS airborne terminals and is the only qualified manufacturer of the LVT(2) and LVT(11) ground-based terminals.
